Beating the Winter Blues: Resident Panel Discussion | January 21

Why our Life Plan and Nonprofit Format Matters

From the very beginning of this community, Canterbury Court has always been a nonprofit Life Plan community. These ideas are core to who we are and how we operate, and we believe they are important factors to consider when you’re making plans for your life.

A Life Plan community, sometimes called a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), is one where a full spectrum of care is available all on one campus. For residents, what this means is that as they enjoy an amazing independent living lifestyle for years or even decades, they’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that higher levels of care are available at Monarch Pavilion right here on campus at Canterbury Court. And with our Life Plan, they’ll enjoy predictable rates for future care, if they need it.

Another key aspect to senior living to consider is whether a community operates as a nonprofit organization, or as a for-profit one. The differences can be significant.

As a nonprofit, the singular focus of the entire community at Canterbury Court is on the community itself and exploring ways to continually improve the lives of the residents here. That’s it. We’re not here to drive profits to investors or outside ownership groups. We exist to benefit our residents, period. This is our very focused mission.

This format also opens up opportunities for residents to have a strong voice in shaping both the day-to-day and long-term operations and planning for Canterbury Court. From resident seats on our Board of Trustees, to formal resident leadership committees, to more informal feedback on community programming, dining options and more, our leadership values the voice of the residents here, and we’re always working to improve our services and amenities in ways that improve our residents’ lives.
